UV-induced mutagenesis was measured using isogenic (A) mutL+ (MS125) and (B) ΔmutL::cat (MS148) dnaN159 Δ(dinB-yafN)::kan strains expressing physiological levels of either β+ (pJD100) or βC (pMDS110), as described in 'METHODS.' Results shown are the average of at least 4 determinations. Error bars represent the standard deviation.
